TOKYO -- While politicians in the U.S. White House and Congress generally agree that China poses a threat, there is also a reluctance to become involved in expensive wars abroad in the House Freedom Caucus, which is generally considered the most conservative and farthest-right bloc of House Republicans.

Former Congressman Ted Yoho was a member of the Freedom Caucus while serving in Congress until 2021. As chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Asia and the Pacific, he was at the center of Congressional discussions on China. He recently sat down with Nikkei Asia during a trip to Tokyo, and described the sentiment in Congress.
