Asahi Glass profit rises 30%, shattering forecast

Chemicals grow in Southeast Asia; automotive glass struggles

TOKYO -- Asahi Glass is expected to post a group operating profit of around 125 billion yen ($1.1 billion) for the year ending Sunday, up 30% from 2016 and 10 billion yen more than projected.

Sales of chemical products have been strong. While the electronics business has been recovering, the core glass business has not been performing particularly well.
