Nippon Steel profit seen jumping 70% in fiscal 2017

Successful price hikes fattening margins

TOKYO -- Nippon Steel & Sumitomo Metal looks on track to log a roughly 70% surge in pretax profit in the year ending March 2018, buoyed by improved market conditions that have made price hikes possible. 

Pretax profit is expected to total some 300 billion yen ($2.69 billion), marking the first growth in three years.
