Robots driving Yaskawa Electric toward record profit

Chinese automation demand pushes company to boost capacity

Yaskawa Electric looks to expand robot production capacity as Chinese demand soars.

TOKYO -- Yaskawa Electric looks poised to surpass its operating profit forecast for the current year through February, thanks largely to strong Chinese demand for industrial robots.

Full-year profit of around 53 billion yen ($470 million) appears likely, compared with the projected 45.5 billion yen. A change in the company's fiscal year-end from March to February prevents simple comparisons, but Yaskawa effectively would achieve its highest-ever annual profit.
