Surging demand sparks recovery at Japan's marine shippers

Nippon Yusen's nine-month profit seen jumping 15-fold

TOKYO -- Earnings at three major Japanese marine shipping companies are improving significantly, supported by strong demand for resource shipments to China.

Nippon Yusen looks to have generated a roughly 35 billion yen ($319 million) pretax profit in the nine months ended December -- 15 times the year-earlier 2.2 billion yen.
