Shinsei Bank, Tencent to offer smartphone-based payment in Japan

TOKYO -- Japan's Shinsei Bank will work with the operator of China's largest social networking service to let Chinese visitors pay via smartphone at duty-free stores and elsewhere.

     Shinsei and consumer credit unit Aplus will team with an affiliate of Tencent Holdings, the operator of WeChat, to let shoppers check out via the app by scanning their smartphone screens at participating businesses.
