The Tokyo 2020 Organizing Committee has unveiled three design candidates for the games' two mascots.

For the first time ever, the mascots for the Olympic and Paralympic Games will be chosen by schoolchildren, when pupils at 20,000 elementary schools across Japan vote for their favorite design early next year.

Three pairs of designs were selected from 2042 submissions from the public.
