BEIJING -- Russian performing arts groups shut out of Western countries after the invasion of Ukraine have found eager audiences in China, tapping into a market where economic growth has kindled interest in the arts.
The chorus and orchestra of St. Petersburg's Mariinsky Theatre, led by renowned conductor Valery Gergiev, wrapped up their Oct. 23 show at the National Center for the Performing Arts (NCPA) in Beijing to enthusiastic applause.
