KOLKATA -- Daniella Mendonca, an intersex person, gushes over her wedding gown as she meticulously plans her wedding with her partner Joel. Drag performer Lush Monsoon anticipates a first meeting with a blind date over feverish texts in the middle of the night. Trinetra Haldar, a transgender woman, flits between the cities of Mumbai and Manipal, navigating two worlds as an actor and a doctor.

In October, India's Supreme Court ruled that the country's constitution does not give same-sex couples the right to marry. But "Rainbow Rishta," a newly released documentary series from Amazon Prime Video, shows a country that is transitioning toward accepting same sex relationships, which were illegal until decriminalized in an earlier court ruling five years ago.
