GYEONGJU, South Korea -- In early April last year, I went to South Korea in search of cherry blossoms, and I found them in abundance in Gyeongju, in the southeastern corner of the country, which was wearing a thick coat of white and pink to celebrate this most glorious of seasons.
Japan is well known internationally for its sakura (cherry blossom) season, which attracts eager tourists from all over the world, as well as locals who dress up for hanami -- the Japanese tradition of getting together to admire these ephemeral blooms and celebrate the change of season.
