HOBART, Australia -- Tasmania, Australia's island state, is one of the country's leading foodie destinations, with ideal growing conditions and an astonishing array of artisan producers and top-shelf restaurants. Add to that a network of twisty roads and rustic hotels and a picture emerges of a destination that appears tailor-made for self-drive vacations.
My road trip though the Apple Isle -- so-called because of its once-booming apple industry -- begins in Davenport, a port town connected to the Australian mainland by vehicle ferry.
