BANGKOK -- One of Thailand's best-known dishes, the shrimp soup tom yum kung, has been named an important part of world culture by a United Nations body.

The food was inscribed Wednesday on UNESCO's list of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. Items on the list are chosen by a committee made up of member states.
