NEW YORK -- For Japanese jazz pianist Tadataka Unno, a brutal incident in late September 2020 taught him that he, too, could become a victim of hate crime against Asians.

A group of black youths attacked him in Harlem after he exited a subway train. Some of the attackers had yelled, "Chinese!"
