BERLIN, Germany -- In a tranquil Berlin neighborhood popular with the city's academic elite sits the home of dissident Chinese writer Liao Yiwu and his wife Lu Yang.
With its wide porch leading to a lush garden seamed with bamboo shrub, the place feels more like the home of the city's chief physician rather than the haven of a couple who fled to the German capital with no money or possessions after years of persecution in China.
