SEOUL -- The record-breaking snows that blanketed South Korea's capital on Nov. 27 and the ensuing Dec. 14 impeachment of President Yoon Suk Yeol after his short-lived declaration of martial law were both unprecedented incidents, but they could not take the shine off the country's multimillion-dollar entertainment industry's most anticipated event of the year.

In the new season of international hit TV series "Squid Game," to be unveiled by global video streaming giant Netflix on Dec. 26, Boxing Day, former scoundrel Seong Gi-hun will slip back into Player 456's green tracksuit to reenter the deadly game for the joy of millions of fans all over the world. In the gripping finale of the original series, Seong had won 45.6 billion won ($31.8 million) as the sole survivor of the lethal game.
