The manga "Kaiju No. 8" shot to popularity after it was published on the app Manga Plus, also known as Shonen Plus, and an anime version of it aired weekly on Japanese TV from April until June. It has become popular overseas as well, thanks to things like real-time distribution through the social media platform X and its use of songs by American and British artists.

The opening theme is "Abyss" by the British singer-songwriter Yungblud. The ending theme of each 30-minute episode is "Nobody" by the U.S. rock band OneRepublic, which is also known for its song "I Ain't Worried," whose whistling intro was used in the 2022 movie "Top Gun: Maverick."
