MUMBAI -- Ratan Tata, the chairman emeritus of Tata Sons who oversaw the Indian conglomerate's global expansion, has died, the group said Wednesday. He was 86.

Known as one of India's leading industrialists, Tata helmed one of the nation's biggest conglomerates from 1991 to 2012.
