China's JD.Com To Form Joint Venture With Online Fashion Retailer Meili

By Amy Lam
Nikkei Markets
HONG KONG (Jan 04) -- JD.com, China's largest retailer, said on Thursday it will form a joint venture with online fashion retailer Meili to build and operate a commerce platform on Chinese voice messaging service Weixin.

Merchants selling their wares through the new platform will gain access to JD's logistics network, the latter said in a statement on Thursday, without disclosing financial details. The new platform is expected to launch before the Chinese New Year in February.

Chen Qi, Meili's founder and chief executive who will also be the joint venture's chairman, said the new platform will make use of Meili's ability to reach female shoppers, particularly in lower-tier cities.
