Japan manufacturing PMI up to 50.4 in September

TOKYO -- The Nikkei Japan Manufacturing Purchasing Managers' Index, or PMI, rose to 50.4 in September from August's 49.5.

A reading above 50 signals an improvement, while one below 50 points to a contraction in activity. The latest PMI shows improvement for the first time since February.
