Japan's Lixil gets earnings back on track in first half

TOKYO -- Lixil Group on Monday reported a consolidated net profit of 24.1 billion yen ($230 million) for the six months ended in September, turning around from a year-earlier setback on the strength of its overseas operations.

The Japanese building materials maker suffered a net loss of 18.3 billion yen for the first half of 2015 after an accounting scandal at Chinese bathroom fixtures unit Joyou. Lixil ended up booking roughly 28 billion yen in losses partly because it assumed loans for the troubled affiliate, leading to its first red ink in six years.
