Nippon Suisan to bring fully farmed tuna to market by winter 2017

TOKYO -- Nippon Suisan Kaisha anticipates being able to begin shipping completely farmed bluefin tuna by the winter of 2017.

The farmed tuna will be sold through supermarkets and restaurants under the Kitsuna Gold Label brand name, according to Tuesday's announcement. The Tokyo-based company will increase the number of artificially hatched fingerlings so that it can increase shipping volumes in stages, to 10,000 fish (equivalent to 500 tons) in fiscal 2018 and 20,000 fish in fiscal 2019.
