Private operators chug to record earnings on tourism boom

TOKYO -- The foreign tourists flooding into Japan have lifted profits at Tokyu and other major private rail operators to historic levels, with healthy earnings in hotel and other leisure businesses.

     Of 14 companies announcing April-December earnings by Wednesday, 10 reported record net profits.
