TOKYO -- Embattled Japanese air bag maker Takata returned to the black in the April-September half, its first interim net profit in three years, thanks largely to sales of its shareholdings. The company also raised its outlook for the full year.
Takata said Friday that it generated 18.2 billion yen ($176 million) in net profit in the six-month period, sharply recovering from a year-earlier net loss of 5.5 billion yen. Its own guidance projected a net profit of 6.5 billion yen.
