Kei Komuro, husband of the woman known until last year as Princess Mako of Japan, passed the New York bar exam this month on his third try amid intense public attention in his home country. This has led me to reflect on career advice I have given over the past 20 years to Japanese students who have asked about getting qualified as a U.S. lawyer.
