Just days before the Philippines officially kicked off its midterm elections, the country's lower house impeached Vice President Sara Duterte for alleged corruption and betrayal of public trust. More than 200 members of Congress, constituting a supermajority of the lower chamber, backed the consolidated impeachment complaints against the embattled vice president, who has come under fire for publicly threatening President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., as well as her failure to account for numerous anomalous expenditures during her tenure as the former education secretary.
