Despite global efforts to curb natural gas use and cut greenhouse gas emissions, demand remains stubbornly high. The International Energy Agency's (IEA) Gas Market Report for the first quarter of this year shows just how much progress is needed: Global gas consumption rose 2.8% last year to 115 billion cubic meters (bcm), exceeding the 2% average growth rate from 2010 to 2020. Demand was driven by the Asia-Pacific region -- the region is projected to account for more than half of this year's global increase.
