Often overlooked in the debates around health care spending or discussions of where to focus drug research funding, diabetes remains one of the most pressing public health challenges of our time, affecting hundreds of millions worldwide and placing an immense burden on health care systems. While significant strides have been made in treatment, a fundamental shift in approach is necessary to really address the complexities of this chronic disease and put a dent on a true global epidemic.
