Myanmar's military has dissolved the ousted ruling party of former leader and pro-democracy icon Aung San Suu Kyi. The move came after the National League for Democracy refused to register for the upcoming general election, calling the poll a sham.

The removal of the NLD, a symbol of Myanmar's democratization, only highlights the emptiness of the military government's proposal to "return to democracy." We fear the country's political confusion will now grow worse.
