Republican Donald Trump won the U.S. presidential election this week. While his victory eight years ago was a surprise, this time it was rather predictable. We urge the returning president not to push the world further into instability. As an ally in Asia, Japan should make more efforts to stabilize the global order.
Trump this week became the second U.S. president to be elected to nonconsecutive terms. Grover Cleveland was the first to make such a comeback, doing so in the 1890s.
