For Japan and South Korea to rebuild ties, both leaders have a role

Yoon needs to unite domestic opinion; Kishida can create favorable environment

Delegations led by Japanese Foreign Minister Yoshimasa Hayashi and South Korean Foreign Minister Park Jin meet in Tokyo on July 18.

Japanese Foreign Minister Yoshimasa Hayashi and his South Korean counterpart Park Jin met in Tokyo on Monday and agreed to settle the dispute over wartime labor at an early date.

With a new South Korean government in office, the two countries must grasp this opportunity to rebuild relations through diplomacy based on trust.
