As the world nears the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II, it is seeing order and common sense, which many had taken for granted, being overturned. As such, the behavior of U.S. President Donald Trump, who has returned to power after four years, will set the direction for the world over the medium to long term.

If the rules-based international order breaks down, the world could be thrown back into an era of war and chaos. The global community needs to use all means at its disposal to avoid this. As a close ally to the U.S., Japan should tap all resources to figure out how to cooperate with the U.S. as well as work hand-in-hand with like-minded countries to contribute to global stability.
