During his recent visit to Saudi Arabia, Chinese President Xi Jinping signed a comprehensive strategic partnership agreement with the host country that includes expanding investment and cooperation on energy.

This comes as Saudi Arabia's historically strong ties with the U.S. have become strained. As China seeks to jump on this opportunity to expand its influence, an important question is whether these diplomatic developments will further divide the international community.
