Xi Jinping's obsession with strength and security raises concern

Pledge to support private enterprises needs to be followed with concrete actions

Entering his third term as China's president, Xi Jinping repeated his desire to strengthen the country's military and to bolster security and stability at home. As he did at the Chinese Communist Party's national congress last autumn, he surrounded himself with close aides, such as new Premier Li Qiang.

The consolidation of power leaves little room for dissent. If China goes down the wrong path, the global implications could be significant. It is worrying.
