Julie de los Reyes is an assistant professor at the Center for Southeast Asian Studies and Hakubi Center for Advanced Research at Kyoto University. Jojo Nem Singh is the principal investigator of the European Research Council-funded project "Green Industrial Policy in the Age of Rare Metals" and a global fellow at the Wilson Center, a U.S.-based think tank.

Amid escalating tensions in the South China Sea, the U.S. has reengaged with its Indo-Pacific allies, pledging "ironclad" support militarily while locking in economic partnerships to counterbalance China.
