Singapore visitor arrivals hit record propelled by Chinese, Indonesian tourists

SINGAPORE (NewsRise) -- Singapore saw record high visitor arrivals and tourism receipts last year, as the number of high-spending Chinese tourists surged and digital marketing efforts began to yield results, the Singapore Tourism Board said on Tuesday.

The Southeast Asian city-state welcomed 16.4 million visitors from abroad in 2016, an increase of 7.7% from 15.2 million in 2015. Indonesia provided the largest total - 2.89 million people from that country visited Singapore last year, a rise of 6.6% year-on-year; China was second, providing 2.86 million tourists, a leap of 36%.
