Japan eyes collaborative defense development at home and abroad

Hideaki Watanabe, commissioner of Japan's new Acquisition, Technology and Logistics Agency, spoke with The Nikkei Friday.

TOKYO -- Japan will cooperate with ally nations and private enterprise to develop cutting-edge defense technology as security threats intensify, the commissioner of Japan's new defense acquisition agency told The Nikkei on Friday.

     The government also seeks to build up Japan's defense industry with an eye toward exporting equipment, Hideaki Watanabe of the Acquisition, Technology and Logistics Agency said in an interview.
