Japanese emperor shows intention to end reign while alive

TOKYO -- Japanese Emperor Akihito has shown his intention to end his reign while still alive, according to Imperial Household Agency sources. The agency is considering making public his intentions, but because the current Imperial Household Law does not allow an emperor to relinquish the throne, a revision of the law would be required.
