Looking ahead to election, Abe stays on economy-first message

TOKYO -- Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has made the economy his top priority for another year in office, but this time the ruling coalition has an upper house election to win.

     "Everything we have could fall apart in a single day," Abe told fellow Liberal Democratic Party lawmakers and staffers at a gathering Monday marking the start of work for the year, urging them to stay focused on success at the polls.
