SYDNEY -- Federal election polls closed across much of Australia on Saturday evening, after millions cast ballots in the pivotal contest that has been dominated by discussion of the rising cost-of-living, with the main candidates trotting out promises to ease financial pressure on households.
Vote counting was set to begin immediately after voting hours ended at 6 p.m. local time. Parties are hoping to win the 76 seats required to form a majority government in the 150-seat parliament.
