DHAKA -- Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Monday faced mounting calls to resign as a weekend of deadly clashes between police and protesters plunged the country into fresh unrest.

The capital Dhaka was under heavy security as soldiers and police blocked residents from taking part in protests that defied a government-ordered curfew, as an internet blackout hampered communication.
