BEIJING -- China's military spending in 2025 is set to expand by 7.2% on the year, matching last year's targeted pace and again surpassing the country's overall economic growth target of "around 5%."

The defense expenditure is part of the annual budget plan submitted to the National People's Congress (NPC) on Wednesday morning. The official military outlay stands to reach a region-topping 1.78 trillion yuan ($245 billion).
