BEIJING -- From the coastal city of Tianjin to the inland province of Shaanxi, top regional officials across China are making a show of their loyalty to Chinese President Xi Jinping at the ongoing National People's Congress.

The Chinese Communist Party has filled key provincial positions with candidates to join its top leadership at its next party congress in 2027, as a way to test their mettle. Now gathered at the nation's capital, many have been touting their connection to Xi at the NPC's provincial breakout sessions, which began Sunday.
