BEIJING -- China's National People's Congress and a key political advisory group will convene in Beijing this week to set the year's agenda, just as the world's No. 2 economy faces a fiercer trade war with the No. 1 superpower, the U.S.

Chinese policymakers have vowed to stimulate domestic consumption, but efforts to curb confidence-draining home price declines and address a cash crunch at local governments have yet to bear fruit. Looming large over exports, meanwhile, is U.S. President Donald Trump, whose administration is set to impose additional tariffs against China while the "Two Sessions" kick off in Beijing.
