TOKYO -- China on Wednesday was circumspect in commenting on the political situation in South Korea, following President Yoon Suk Yeol's overnight decision to quickly rescind a surprise declaration of martial law.

The political situation in South Korea was an "internal matter" for the country, Foreign Minister Wang Yi was quoted as telling reporters, using boilerplate language to avoid taking a position.
