TOKYO -- China has placed its defense minister under investigation, the Financial Times reported on Wednesday, citing unidentified U.S. officials.

Dong Jun was appointed to the post last December in a reshuffle authorized by President Xi Jinping. If the investigation is confirmed, he would be the third straight defense minister -- either in office or recently retired -- to face a probe into alleged graft.
