China launches 3-month crackdown on online news providers

Stepped-up efforts target content straying from the official line

BEIJING -- Chinese internet regulators announced Thursday an intensive three-month campaign against illegal activities in the online news sector.

The Office of the Central Cyberspace Affairs Commission issued a notice on the special operation to "clear up and rectify" illegal conduct by internet news services.
