It should come as no surprise that Australia's parliament features a smorgasbord of ethnic and cultural backgrounds. After all, this is a country in which half the population is foreign-born or has a parent who was born overseas. So the recent chaos wrought by Australia's century-old constitution has been extraordinary to watch.
In the past few months, a bar on dual nationals in parliament has disqualified or forced the resignations of seven senators and two MPs, including the deputy prime minister, all of whom denied knowing they had foreign citizenship. Most were born in Australia.
