BANGKOK -- Thailand's military-installed parliament on Tuesday morning formally confirmed that Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn, 64, the heir apparent to King Bhumibol Adulyadej, who died on Oct. 13, will be invited to succeed his father as the new king.

The meeting of the National Legislative Assembly followed a cabinet resolution passed earlier the same morning.
