TOKYO -- Two Chinese aircraft carriers were spotted in the Pacific Ocean over the weekend, the Japanese Defense Ministry said Monday, the first time simultaneous activity was confirmed in that body of water. 

The Shandong aircraft carrier and four other ships, including a guided-missile destroyer, sailed in waters about 550 kilometers southeast of Miyakojima in Okinawa prefecture on Saturday.
