TOKYO -- The Japanese government is considering creating an organization next year to explore AI security issues, including the risk of civilian AI technology being diverted for military purposes, aiming to improve safety without impeding research and development, Nikkei has learned.

A formal announcement of the plans is expected as early as this month at an artificial intelligence strategy council meeting. The body will include private-sector professionals with experience in the field.
